What is atp meaning?

ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate. It is a molecule that is used as a source of energy in all living cells. ATP is composed of three phosphate groups, a sugar molecule (ribose), and a nitrogenous base (adenine). When energy is needed, the third phosphate group is cleaved from the ATP molecule, releasing the stored energy. The resulting molecule, ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate), has only two phosphate groups and must be recharged with a third phosphate group to generate more ATP. ATP is used in many cellular processes such as muscle contraction, protein synthesis, and active transport. It is considered the energy currency of the cell.
